INTUITIVE INTERIORS
ART FOR ALL
Annie Conboy is a self taught intuitive artists and photographer who has been passionate about all forms of art and craft since she was eight years old. After a long pause in her creative work Annie returned to her artistic roots in 2009. She began engaging with the energy of place, space and people to convey an abstract sense of what she was experiencing. Annie works with her feelings about her experiences by letting the art emerge as it will. She says the this is a satisfying way of transmuting those experiences into a visual form that others can share. Often deliberately unstructured but given meaning by the interpretation others place on her pieces Annie is delighted to provide art as a discussion of the meaning of life.
Returning to her photography during 2020 Annie uses ‘point and click’ to explore the natural world. She enjoys clicking away to see what she captures. Annie is often surprised at what has made it’s way into her compositions and sees this method as a great success. It allows her to capture all the little details we often ignore. Her photographs are therefore more structured than her art yet still being in the moment.
In the last couple of years Annie has returned to another craft she followed for many years. She is back to knitting. The cuddle cushions, hugani’s and scarves are all unique. Annie’s intution draws her to the colours, textures and patterns within each ball of wool. She has never repeated a colour/pattern combination as she says that every hug from a knitted piece is individual to the person receiving it. Some are bright and sparkly others are the colours of Mother Earth to reflect that human beings come in all shapes, sizes and personalities.
Annie started painting again in her bedroom, moved to her kitchen and then, through her participation in the Hebden Bridge Open Studios events, into her own studio. She now has her knitting shed at home in Halifax as well as a permanent studio space in Kirkcudbright. She teaches intuitive art through in person and zoom workshops.
